Project “Development of the Mediation System”
Project objective is to enhance the effectiveness of the justice system by developing the mediation framework.
The project aimed to inform the public about the possibility of resolving disputes through mediation, including the introduction of mandatory mediation in family disputes effective from 1 January 2020. Awareness-raising activities were funded by the project and included brochures, press and online articles, banners, radio programs, and planned television segments. The project also aimed to ensure convenient and smooth access to mediation services.
A key goal of the project was to ensure an efficient and high-quality mediator selection process by creating a user-friendly tool within the information system – the Register of Mediators of the Republic of Lithuania.
Project results:
- A mediator qualification exam program was developed to ensure proper assessment of mediators’ knowledge and skills;
- Study visits were conducted to Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands to gather best practices and implement them in Lithuania. An international conference was also organized;
- Using project funds, seven premises in courts across Lithuania were fully adapted for mediation purposes;
- A methodological guide for mediators was developed and published.
Project implementation period: March 2018 – October 2020.
